Welcome to the 60th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival!
Founded in 1961, WorldFest-Houston is the oldest independent film festival in the world and one of the longest-running celebrations of independent cinema anywhere. For more than six decades, we have championed emerging filmmakers, original voices, and bold storytelling from around the globe.
WHERE LEGENDS BEGIN.
For more than six decades, WorldFest has served as a launchpad for emerging filmmakers while remaining fiercely committed to independent storytelling, artistic discovery, and meaningful filmmaker experiences.
Unlike festivals centered on major studio productions, WorldFest was built to discover and support independent artists. Early in their careers, WorldFest recognized filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ang Lee, Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone, Jane Campion, David Lynch, the Coen Brothers, Lesli Linka Glatter, Deepa Mehta, Agnieszka Holland, John Lee Hancock, Randal Kleiser, David Winning, and many more.

THE WORLDFEST EXPERIENCE
WorldFest60 is a nine-day international celebration of independent film featuring:
• Premiere screenings featuring approximately 35 feature films and 100 short films from around the world
• Industry seminars, workshops, and masterclasses designed to expand your craft and career
• Filmmaker panels and networking mixers because filmmaking is a team sport
• Intimate access to fellow filmmakers, jurors, speakers, and industry professionals in a filmmaker-first environment
• The Remi Awards Gala, celebrating creative excellence and the artists behind the work
• Daily wellness programming designed to help filmmakers combat burnout, foster creativity, and build sustainable artistic careers
• The International Autism Filmmakers Showcase, celebrating autistic storytellers and expanding access to the film industry
• Closing Day celebrations, including our signature Day on the Bay with the Houston Yacht Club
WORLD FEST PROGRAMMING PHILOSOPHY
We seek films that are bold, authentic, emotionally resonant, and deeply personal. Whether made for $500 or $5 million, we believe great storytelling transcends budget. We champion independent voices, cultural exchange, artistic risk-taking, and filmmakers with a unique point of view.
As our founder Hunter Todd often said, we are looking for "a good story, well told."

Submission Categories
Animated Short
Short films created primarily through animation, including 2D, 3D, stop-motion, clay, hand-drawn, CGI, or mixed techniques.
Comedy Short
Short films where comedy is central to the storytelling.
Documentary Short
Short Films that are non-fictional intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record."
Experimental Short
Short films that explore innovative storytelling, visual art, or unconventional cinematic techniques.
Family/ Children Short
Short films appropriate for family audiences, with themes suitable for children and adults to enjoy together.
Horror Short
Short films centered on horror, fear, suspense, supernatural dread, or dark genre storytelling.
Narrative Short
Short fictional films of any genre.
Science Fiction & Fantasy Short
Short films featuring speculative fiction, futuristic concepts, fantasy worlds, or supernatural elements.
Student Short
Short films completed while the primary filmmaker was enrolled as a student.
Suspense / Thriller Short
Short Films that evoke excitement and suspense in the audience.
Vertical Storytelling
Projects intentionally created for vertical 9:16 viewing on mobile-first platforms, including narrative, documentary, comedy, branded, experimental, or episodic works.
Animated Feature
Feature-length films created primarily through animation, including 2D, 3D, stop-motion, clay, hand-drawn, CGI, or mixed techniques.
Documentary Feature
Feature Films that are non-fictional intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record"
Comedy Feature
Feature-length fictional films where comedy is central to the storytelling.
Experimental Feature
Feature-length films that challenge traditional storytelling through innovative visual, narrative, or technical approaches.
Family/Children Feature
Feature-length films appropriate for family audiences, with themes suitable for children and adults to enjoy together.
First Feature
The director’s first feature-length film, regardless of genre.
Horror Feature
Feature-length films centered on horror, fear, suspense, supernatural dread, or dark genre storytelling.
International Feature
Feature-length films produced primarily outside the United States or representing an international creative team.
Low Budget Feature
Feature Films that were made with a low budget of 250, 000 or less.
Narrative Feature
Feature-length fictional stories of any genre, including drama, action, romance, historical, western, faith/spiritual, and more.
Science Fiction & Fantasy Feature
Feature-length films featuring speculative fiction, futuristic concepts, fantasy worlds, or supernatural elements.
Suspense / Thriller Feature
Feature Films that evoke excitement and suspense in the audience.
Music Video
Music videos of any genre or style.
Concert Performance
Musical concert of any genre or style.
Interactive Media
Interactive, immersive, or non-linear digital experiences, including XR, VR, AR, and other emerging media.
Podcast/Video Podcast
Podcast or video podcast projects.
Web Series
Episodic works created for web or streaming distribution.
Commercials
Advertising, promotional, or branded content created for broadcast, digital, theatrical, or online distribution.
Public Service Announcements (PSAs)
Short-form productions created to educate, inspire, or promote public awareness for nonprofit, governmental, educational, or community initiatives.
Professional Media - Corporate / Brand
Professional films created to promote, communicate, or tell the story of a company, brand, organization, or product.
Professional Media - Performing Arts & Dance
Projects celebrating dance, music, theater, opera, or other performing arts through cinematic storytelling or performance capture.
Professional Media - Educational / Training
Films and videos designed to educate, instruct, or train audiences in academic, professional, or workplace settings.
Professional Media - Medical / Scientific
Films exploring medicine, healthcare, science, technology, research, or innovation for professional or public audiences.
